Why ServeCville Exists
Charlottesville is filled with people who want to make a difference. It is also filled with organizations doing remarkable work—feeding families, caring for children, supporting people in crisis, helping those experiencing homelessness, welcoming refugees, mentoring young people, walking alongside families, and meeting needs most of us never see. Often, the challenge is simply connecting the two. ServeCville exists to make that connection easier.
What We Believe
Behind ServeCville is a distinctly Christian conviction about human worth: every person is created in the image of God. That means human value isn’t earned by accomplishment, income, ability, background, beliefs, or circumstances. It is inherent.
Every person matters.
That belief shapes the way we think about service. People in difficult circumstances aren’t projects to fix or problems to solve. They are our neighbors—people worthy of dignity, compassion, respect, and care.
Jesus taught us to love our neighbors, and we believe one of the most practical ways to do that is simply to show up and serve.
Who We Partner With
Many of the organizations you will find on ServeCville are Christian organizations whose missions grow directly out of their faith. But ServeCville is not limited to Christian organizations.
We also want to highlight organizations doing meaningful work that protects human dignity, cares for people in difficult circumstances, strengthens families and neighborhoods, and contributes to the good of our community.
We don’t expect every organization we feature—or every person who uses ServeCville—to share our beliefs.
You don’t have to believe what we believe to serve alongside us.
Our Hope
Our goal is simple: make it easier for people to move from “I should do something” to “Here’s where I can help.”
We want ServeCville to become a trusted place where individuals, families, churches, businesses, students, and groups can discover meaningful opportunities to serve throughout Charlottesville and the surrounding area.
Because a stronger community isn’t built by people who merely care.
It’s built by people who show up.
